Blogathon in a Nutshell:

1. What the heck is a Blogathon?
A blogathon is kind of like a marathon, but with words instead of steps. Each year, bloggers sign up to earn money for the charity of their choice. The rule is that you have to post at least once every half hour, for 24 hours. Things get a little crazy after a whole day of blogging, but it's a fun way to raise money for things we care about!

2. So when is it happening?
This year's Blogathon will take place July 28-29, from 8am-8am Central (6am Pacific). There is an alternate sabbath schedule available, if "Schedule A" conflicts with your beliefs, or is otherwise not possible for you. I'll be doing the regular 8am-8am schedule. Yes, *I* am getting out of bet at 8am! That alone deserves your support, does it not? (Sponsor Me!)

3. Which charity are you blogging for?
I'll be raising money for Doctors Without Borders (Medicans Sans Frontiers) again this year. (Sponsor Me!)

They're an amazing, Nobel Peace Prize winning charity that provides support in the form of food, shelter, clean water, and medical care to refugees, people who are victims of natural and man-made disasters, epidemics, etc.

The following video sums up MSF.

Warning- it can be graphic in places.

4. What does my plege go towards?

A few examples:

$15 provides a month of clean water for 50 refugees.

$35 provides two high-energy meals a day to 200 children for a month.

$50 pays for life-saving vaccinations for 50 people against meningitis, measles, polio or other deadly epidemics.

5. How do I know that my money goes to the charity?

At the end of the Thon, you'll recieve an e-mail providing you a direct link to Doctors Without Borders's donation site. You do not send any money to me or the blogathon- it all goes directly to the charity.

However, if you want to sponsor me, but are not comfortable donating online, you can give me your donation directly, and I will donate it in your name.

6. Do I have to pledge by the hour?

Blogathon has the fab options of either sponsoring a set amount per hour (such as $2 per hour I blog, so $48 total), or a set donation (such as $10 total).

7. I'm a little tight on cash. Is there a minimum donation?

One reason that I love Doctors Without Borders is that even one dollar goes a LONG way. There is no minimum donation- you're free to pledge as little or as much is comfortable for you.

8. Will doing this good deed make me famous among millions?
Almost! I'll be posting thank you's to my sponsors on my blog during the event, so everyone will know just how awesome you are!

9. Have you done this before?
I've done the Blogathon every year that it has existed- I'm quite proud! This will be the 6th year, I believe.

10. Does this kind of charity fundraising actually work?
Last year, we had 285 bloggers complete all 24 hours, and raised a total of over $100,000. Go team us!

11. Sounds like fun! Can I do it, too?

Sure can! Sign-ups are open at http://www.blogathon.org/
The more, the merrier!

12. How else can I help?
I can always use frieds online to talk to during the event! Myspace messages, comments, e-mails, etc make me happy! I'll also be accepting questions an topics from now until the blogathon ends- ask whatever you'd like, an I'll post about it!

13. Hey, what was that sponsoring link again?

I'm glad you asked! All you have to do is Click here to pledge!

14. Hey! I have questions that weren't answered here!

See the Blogathon FAQ, or just ask!
