NYFW Begins!

New York Fashion Week has begun! SQUEE! It's like Christmas, but with better shoes!

Here are what I consider to be some of the highlights so far! (All images via

BCBG Max Azria is always one of my favorites:

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

I love how this dress kind of hints at the current Aztec print trend without being literal.

The use of pattern and shape here is just super cool.

My only complaint about the collection is that it feels more suited to resort wear season than Spring 2012 RTW! Overall I liked it but didn't fall in love.

Kimberly Ovitz Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

While I'm not initially attracted to it, this look from Kimberly Ovit's Japanese earthquake-inspired collection really got my attention. The styling is interesting- no shoes (all of the other models had them) and the washed out, almost war-torn hair and makeup. This made me want to flip through the whole collection again and really think about the point of view. The review describes the mood of the show as "dreamy and somber", which is perfect choice of words.

Richard Chai Love Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

THIS. THIS! From Richard Chai Love's collection. I mean.. THIS. 40s housewife on acid. I can not WAIT till gets the details photos up, because I need to see this up close. LOVE that the sleeves and neck are a different color. The weird "seam" lines. I just..ahhhh! This is what I love about fashion week. (The neckline is the only part I don't love, but I'm willing to overlook that.) There's a similar dress in the collection, but it just doesn't pull it off as well. The whole collection was just yummy to consume.

Gary Graham Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

I *almost* really like Gary Graham's collection. It's very "little girl with a sense of style playing dress-up in her thrift store/grandma's attic finds". There are sparks of greatness- the socks are fab, the floaty slips. But it just doesn't -quite- hit the mark.

Rachel Comey Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

I really like what Rachel Comey does with prints. This one is a magnified photo of a cable knit blown up and printed on sheer fabric.

Does this one (also Rachel Comey) remind anyone of that dress Burt did on Project Runway with his boxers?

I wouldn't be surprised to see this dress (Rachel Comey, again) turn up on a red carpet VERY soon.

Sigh, it really is the most wonderful time of the year.
