It's pretty much officially summer, which for a lot of people means vacation! I happily spent last summer chasing U2 around Canada, but I don't think I'll be going anywhere this year. Still, I'm a huge travel nerd, so my lack of actual plans didn't stop me from totally geeking out to play with the Roadtrip-a-Matic planner when I heard about it!
Visitpa.com put together this handy dandy little tool to help plan pa-roadtrips. It's actually really cute, with all kinds of different themed Pennsylvania trips you can browse through, from the Taste Buds Tour that showcases PA food and drink (and beer!) to the Fairway Drive for golfers, to the Trails Mix, which has all outdoorsy stuff for hikers and nature enthusiasts. You just pick the theme you like, and then under that there are different choices depending on which part or parts of the state you want to hit. Then it breaks down when to eat, sleep, shop and recreate (totally a word! Recreationalize? Whatever.) and gives you maps and info!
I checked out "The Picture Perfect Roadtrip", under the Shutterbug trips for photographers. That trip includes Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, which I actually wrote an article on for USA Today's travel site last year! It sounds like an awesome place for horseback riding, so my friend Katie and I could go relive our equestrian youth! The trip also includes Cherry Springs State Park, which is possibly the most cheerful name for a park ever. I liked it because ith as a stargazing place called the Crystal Sphere, and I'm a fan of anything named after me!
Do you have any roadtrips planned this summer? Are you a hit the road and indulge in gas station junk food person, or would you rather fly? Let me know if you play with the Roadtrip-a-Matic, too!
