As I start sorting through and packing up my belongings to move back to Orlando, I've been thinking about how much easier the move will be this time. When I first moved to Florida in 2007, I knew exactly one person there. I had been to Walt Disney World on multiple vacations, but had never seen anything of Orlando outside of the theme parks and the road between Disney and the airport. Everything was a giant mystery. An adventure.
A few weeks before I was set to move, all of the fear and doubts really started to rear their ugly heads. I'd never lived so far away from everyone and everything I knew. I expressed some of my worries to my friend Todd on one of our famous marathon 12 hour phone calls, and his reply was "You know, I worry about my friends. But I'm not worried about you, and it'sn ot because I don't care, but because I know you'll be okay." That stuck with me. Sometimes, we need someone else to point out our strengths when we're having trouble seeing them.
I can't imagine how different my life would be now if I hadn't taken the plunge and built that new life from scratch. I wouldn't know any of the dozens of friends that became so important to my life while I was there, and would definitely have missed out on a lot of amazing, crazy, lesson-learning experiences. My world would be so much smaller.
Allstate asked me to share my experience of focusing on the great things that come when we focus on the good things, rather than the fears and doubts that stand in the way as a part of their Allstate Good Life campaign. It's so true- why miss out on amazing experiences because of worry?
Do you have any stories of going after the good life? I'd love to hear them!
