Okay, yes, I am just NOW getting around to telling you about my April subscription items from Ellie! It's just the end of June, no big delay or anything! (Oops.)
April's theme was Coral Crush, as you can probably tell from the snazzy banner above. To be honest, when I heard about the coral theme I was a little unsure if I'd end up liking anything, since it's not a color I wear often. That worry ended up being unfounded - there ended up being so many items I loved that it was hard to pick! (This happens almost every month!)
This is the first time that I decided to go with two tops instead of a top and a bottom. As much as I LOVE the leggings and capris I've gotten from Ellie, this time the tops won out.
So, what did I pick?
Dynamic Duo Top
How cute is this top? I have to admit, I was excited to see Ellie finally do a looser fitting tank top! Most of their past tops have been very fitted, so it was great to see an alternative for those of us who don't especially want something that clings to the midsection! Another thing in terms of fit- no worries with this top if you're busty, there's PLENTY of room! And if you're not so blessed when it comes to boobage, the dual layer kind of creates the illusion of having a little more than you do! I also just liked that it's a unique design; I don't think I've ever seen anything similar. The cut-outs on the sides are well placed. They give you some ventilation, but in a flattering spot. (This top is sadly sold out now! But there may be a similar design in upcoming months!)
After some reversability experiments with my other top (read about that below), I decided to see if I might be able to reverse this, too. It took some figuring out (see the video!), but I like the result quite a bit!
I did find that this top was a little TOO loose on me. I ordered the Large, which is what I always get from Ellie, but I felt like the coral colored layer was a little too large to be flattering. Thankfully I'm handy with a sewing machine, so I spent a couple of minutes sewing new seams and was really pleased with the result!
It Takes Two Top
This is the second top I got for April! Like the first one, it also has two layers. There's a fitted coral tank top underneath, and a sheer white billowy shirt made of super soft fabric on top.
I found a sort of unusual use for this top - It is PERFECT for going grocery shopping on a hot day. You know how you'll throw on a cute hot weather shirt, go to the store, and then end up walking around shivering because they crank up the AC and you have to walk through the freezer section? I wore this to buy groceries yesterday and found that if I just pushed up the sleeves while I was in the car or out in the sun, it was nice and cool, but I LOVED being able to pull them down to cover my arms while in the chillier parts of the store!
I do have to say that the fit on this is a little off for me. (See video review for details!) I also really wish that there was a way to separate the two layers and wear them separately. I'd get ten times more use out of it!
Pardon the wrinkles - I left it stuffed in the envelope for a week!
Another thing I love about this top is that it is PERFECT for yoga! You know how if you're wearing a loose-fitting shirt and you bend over to do certain asanas, your shirt flips up and suddenly your stomach is hanging out? Problem solved! The coral layer is form fitting, so it will stay put while you are inverted, but the white layer offers that little extra bit of coverage if you don't like everyone in class seeing all of your curves.
When I was looking for an "official" image of this top on Ellie's FB page, I noticed that the image I grabbed says this is reversible. I was fairly confused, since if you flip it out, there are obvious seams and a big tag. I did finally figure out a way to get the coral layer on top while keeping them both right side out. It's a little awkward-looking, though, so I'm not sure if this is how they intended it!
Here are a few more items from the Coral Crush collection that I liked:
Coming tomorrow (Or maybe the next day... I mean, it took me this long to write about April), I'll be telling you about my awesome shirt from the June "California Dreams" collection! But until then, how about sharing the love a little?
I have one of these super cute pink Ellie headbands to give away! It's stretchy and comfy and awesome!
